Village SOS

Village SOS is a Big Lottery Fund (BIG) and BBC initiative to kick start a rural revival across the UK.

In 2010, BIG awarded Visit the Village SOS websiteLottery grants worth £4.5m to ten rural villages across the UK to develop new community enterprises that would breathe new life into their local area. Six of these villages have had their stories filmed over the past year for a primetime BBC One television series, Village SOS, which airs in summer 2011.

Alongside the TV series, BIG has launched Village SOS Active, www.villagesos.org.uk, a resource that will help enterprising rural communities inspired by the Village SOS programme to start up their own community enterprises.
